As a result of increasing numbers of unstable and unpredictable rainfall, a new infrastructure consisting of foldable water tanks plays a crucial role to be micro reservoirs in urban area. In order to prevent serious floods from extreme weather, this infrastructure capture the rainfall and slow down the speed of the groundwater recharging.
The water supply system is hidden behind the wall or floor of the building, and the water reservoir is too far away from individuals’ daily life.
Since drought and heat waves have hit worldwide more frequently, many rivers and traditional reservoirs are approaching the historically lowest level.
About the project
Groundwater is essential for replenishing levels of surface water and maintaining the surface temperature. However, extreme climates have led to more drought and floods. Since drought and heat waves have hit worldwide more frequently, many rivers and reservoirs are approaching the historically lowest level. Unstable and unpredictable weather is becoming the new normal, the traditional water storage should be altered in a more flexible and sustainable way. "Waterface” draws attention to water scarcity. It provides an overview of speculative prototypes of infrastructure including a foldable water interface showing instant water consumption. The decentralized micro reservoir would bring a new and dynamic urban landscape merged with more water storage capacity.
